A neurological condition is any disorder that affects the brain, spinal cord, or neurons in the nervous system. These conditions can interfere with how messages are sent between your brain and body, leading to changes in movement, thinking, sensation, or energy levels.
At PhysiKits, we focus on four key conditions that affect the central nervous system (CNS) in unique ways:
Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
An autoimmune condition where the immune system attacks the protective coating of nerves in the brain and spinal cord. This can disrupt signals and lead to fatigue, weakness, balance issues, or vision problems.
Parkinson’s Disease (PD)
A progressive condition that affects brain cells involved in movement. It can cause symptoms like tremors, stiffness, slowed movements, and difficulty with coordination.
Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)
A broad term for brain injuries that happen after birth, which can affect thinking, speech, mobility, or behaviour depending on the part of the brain involved. Stroke (a blood flow blockage or bleed) and trauma (for example a car crash) are the most common causes.
Cerebral Palsy (CP)
A condition caused by early brain injury (before, during, or shortly after birth) that affects muscle control, leading to movements that may be stiff, jerky, or uncoordinated.
There are many other types of neurological conditions. If you're living with one and need support, you're always welcome to get in touch with us.
